Over the past year since we launched our app Pogo Rides, we’ve been proclaiming the benefits, and the barriers to carpooling.
But now, with hundreds of schools and activity providers and thousands of parents using Pogo in the Seattle area alone, those barriers are far less, the benefits are clear, and it’s easier than ever for parents to connect to share rides for their kids.
For example, using Pogo, if you search under “Ballard High School” a list of 60+ parents pops up, with bios, photos, mutual contacts or groups, and reviews. All of these parents frequently drive within a one mile radius of the searched location. You can send someone a message to get together to connect or simply set up a ride at the touch of a button.
We’ve seen many alternatives to the quest for a ride or carpool:
Facebook posts: “Anyone going to Paramount Park next Tuesday? My daughter needs a ride to basketball practice.” Followed by a slew of posts (if you’re lucky). No calendar reminder (unless you manually add it) and no way to update or change it without more tedious communication.
Text threads: LONG text threads, that leave you confused (understatement of the century). “Who again said they could drive next Friday?”
Uber: A reliable resource for young adults, but technically, you have to be over 18 to ride alone in an Uber. Parents still question safety, and younger children are out of luck.
Throw in the towel: Giving up on carpooling altogether happens when the frustration to find, organize, and manage the fairness of the carpool becomes overwhelming. Some parents would just rather do it themselves. There’s nothing wrong with this (I really do like picking up my kids from school) other than we’d prefer for parents to have choices. Plus, the majority of parents say they’d be happy to give another child a ride, but don’t seem to know how to find them.
So if you’ve experienced any of the above angst and would like a different end result, give Pogo Rides a try.
Here are the top 60 Pogo user destinations (in alphabetical order) in the Seattle area. Could you save a little time by connecting with a parent heading to…?

And for the organizations above, if we are not already working with you to support your transportation needs, please reach out to us at firstname.lastname@example.org for any admin, marketing, and technical support. It’s easy to set up your group on Pogo based on your specific needs and goals (and dare I say we’re pretty fun to work with as well).
