Welcome! Once you’ve downloaded the app, go through the initial process of adding a trip that starts automatically. After you’ve added the details of where your child needs to go and when, go to the “My Pool” tab at the bottom left. There, you can see who is in your trusted pool, see suggestions, and search for people using the search bar at the top. Be sure to add people to your trusted pool to have a match for your trip! Lastly, go to the “My Trips” tab at the bottom, and indicate your driving preferences on your trips by tapping “can drive”, “flexible”, or “need a ride”. The three things you need to have to get matched for a carpool are trips, people in your pool, and selections for your driving preferences! Be sure to invite your friends and family to Pogo as well by tapping “Invite” at the bottom of the “My Pool” tab.
In the new Pogo all you need are carpool friends in your Pool and Trips to plan your carpool.
After upgrading you should be prompted to set up a ride indicating what time your kids need to be dropped off and what time they need to be picked up. This will create a set of rides in your My Trips tab.
From here, indicate the days you plan to drive, are flexible (meaning you are willing to do either) or need a ride for your child. If you do not make a selection, we will not propose a carpool for you for that trip.
Our new system will propose riders and drivers. You will be notified when a child needs a ride or when you have a child waiting to be confirmed. Like the old system, you are always in control as a driver over who you accept into a ride. If you decline someone, we keep this private so you don’t need to worry about hurting feelings.
This should be all that you should need to do to be up and running. If you do not see your friends in your Pool you can add someone by searching by name using the search bar.
Once you set up a new Trip (see “Where should I start?” above), you indicate your driving status by selecting Can Drive, Flexible, or Need a Ride. This is done for each trip segment. Can Drive and Flexible both indicate a willingness to drive other kids on that particular segment. If we find a driver in your pool on a day that you’ve indicated you are Flexible, we will propose them to drive.
You are always in control as a driver over who you accept into a ride. If you decline someone, we keep this private, so you don’t need to worry about hurting feelings. Also we do not divulge to the other parent that you were proposed.
You can adjust the details of any of your trips at any time from the My Trips screen, which is accessed from the bottom navigation bar. Change your driving status by toggling between Can Drive, Flexible, and Need a Ride. Tap “View trip details” just below the Need a Ride button to access other details on the Trip Detail screen. Tap Edit in the upper right corner to change the pickup or drop-off locations, the trip date, and the time – or delete the trip altogether.
Once you set up a new Trip (see “Where should I start?” above), you would indicate your need to find a ride by selecting Need a Ride for that particular segment. Add your riders and then Pogo will present you with potential matches that you can connect with via Pogo’s built-in messaging system. You can also proactively find matches by inviting people you know to your pool.
Once you set up a new Trip (see “Where should I start?” above) and fill out all the trip details – including adding your riders – then the Pogo route matching algorithm goes to work. If there is a match, you will see a notification there are potential members you can add to your pool. You can view their profile, chat with them in the app and optionally add to your pool when you are ready to start sharing rides with the. If there is no match, we’ll suggest you add to your pool. Don’t worry we also keep looking in the background for members that might join and be a good match. When this occurs we will send you a notification.
This can happen two ways in Pogo. (1) You are the driver of the ride and include your child in the ride. (2) You request a ride for your child and share that request with whomever you are comfortable driving your child. Your child is in a “pending state” in that ride until someone confirms that they will drive your child. You can remove your child from any ride at any time. Just to reiterate…you choose to download the Pogo app, who to connect with, who rides in your car, and with whom your children ride.
Pogo strives to provide tools and information to help you make informed decisions about ride sharing options. However, that information does not include background checks, driver’s license verification, proof of insurance, or driving history. We will help you discover parents who live near you, share trusted group connections with you (school, club, sports team), and share personal connections. Pogo is intended to help inform but in no way be a substitute for parental judgement. If you’re not sure about another parent as a driver, send them a message via the Pogo app and meet in the real world.
My Pool – accessed in the bottom navigation in the app – is a list of the people you trust to drive your kids. You can add or remove people from your pool at any time from your Pool. We will only propose people from your pool for your rides if their routes match yours. This is how we help you discover whether your friend is headed across town at the same time as you. Try to have 5 or more people in your pool. Invite friends to Pogo via email, text, or link by tapping the blue button at the bottom of the My Pool screen.
Start by setting up your My Pool in Pogo (see “What is My Pool in Pogo?” above). Then set up a new Trip (see “Where should I start?” above) and fill out all the trip details. Have your carpool pals do the same. Pogo’s algorithms will automatically match your routes and each person’s driving preferences to set up a balanced slate of shared rides for all of you. Then it’s up to each of you confirm everything since the ultimate control over who you drive and who your child rides with is up to you, of course.
There are two stages to this duplication of rides. (1) As part of setting up a new Trip (see “Where should I start?” above) you can select one day or multiple days on the “What days do you go?” screen. (2) Then on the My Trips screen, for each trip segment, when you indicate your driving status with Can Drive, Flexible, or Need a Ride, you will be asked whether this trip should apply to “Just this Monday” or to “All future Mondays.”
You can adjust the details of any of your trips at any time from the My Trips screen, which is accessed from the bottom navigation bar. To delete a trip altogether, tap “View trip details” just below the Need a Ride button. On the resulting Trip Detail screen, tap Edit in the upper right corner and then tap the Delete Trip button. You can delete a single trip or all future trips for that ride.
When you first use Pogo you will be asked to give Pogo access to the contacts on your phone. This makes it very easy to connect with people on Pogo and set up shared rides. We don’t share your Contacts with any third parties – it is only to make your Pogo experience work better for you. If you would like to change Pogo’s access to your phone contacts, tap Me in the bottom nav of the app, go to the Settings menu, and click on Permissions.
When you first use Pogo you will be asked to give Pogo permission to send you notifications. These are commonly referred to as “push notifications” and are messages that pop up for a brief moment on your phone when you have it unlocked, or may appear on your phone’s lock screen. Pogo uses these notifications to alert you to events in the Pogo app, such as a potential ride match; that a driver has confirmed they will drive your child as you requested; that a driver can no longer drive your child; and that your child has been picked up or dropped off. If you would like to change Pogo’s ability to send you notifications, tap Me in the bottom nav of the app, go to the Settings menu, and click on Permissions.
Pogo requires trust so that we can confidently have our children share rides safely as part of an interconnected community. This level of trust requires authenticity and transparency. Users on Pogo need to be real, verifiable people and represent themselves honestly and openly. We strive to provide the tools and policies to make that possible.
It’s important to keep in mind that every step within the Pogo app is completely voluntary on the part of the user. The user chooses to download the app, they choose who to connect with, which groups to join and, most importantly, who rides in their car and with whom their children ride. As part of that process we collect a limited set of personal information about you and your child(ren). This data is not shared with any third-parties for their marketing purposes. It is shared with other Pogo users when you choose to connect with them 1:1; when you agree to be part of a ride with other families; and when you are part of the same Pogo group.
Pogo makes every effort to ensure that your information is secure in our system. Pogo has staff dedicated to maintaining the security of all user data. Pogo’s physical infrastructure is hosted and managed within Amazon’s secure data centers and utilizes the Amazon Web Services (AWS) technology stack. Amazon’s data center operations have been accredited under ISO 27001; SOC 1/SSAE 16/ISAE 3402; PCI Level 1; FISMA Moderate; and Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX).
With that said, unfortunately no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure. As a result, Pogo cannot 100% guarantee the security of any information you transmit to us, and users must be comfortable with some small level of risk that accompanies any online activity. If you are not comfortable with this, please do not use the Pogo app or services.
